Are you trying to figure out how to target quantitative concepts in your speech therapy sessions? Quantitative concepts refer to numerical and measurable ideas, which are crucial for language comprehension, verbal expression, and cognitive development, so targeting quantitative concepts is great to do when our kids have trouble with them.
How to target quantitative concepts
The ways that I like to teach quantitative concepts in my therapy sessions include:
- Providing Concrete Examples and Visual Aids Providing concrete examples helps students learn better. For example, you can show tangible objects or pictures when working on quantitative concepts. You can have each child group different objects or count how many are in a picture to help compare and learn them.
- Repetition We all know that repetition is the key to learning something new, so this is no different. Providing repeated exposure to quantitative concepts will help your kids internalize their understanding of them.
- Comparisons Another way to help teach quantitative concepts is to have students compare different items to one another. Have them use words like “more”, “less”, etc. when comparing different items throughout their therapy sessions.
- Counting Rhymes A fun way to teach these concepts include rhymes like “5 Little Monkeys.” For this song, you can play it and have visuals that show the different number of monkeys and then use them to count and compare, using the concept to describe them that you are working on.
