Are you wondering what you can do for your speech kids on their birthday? We will always come across kids who are celebrating their birthday, and while we still need to continue to work on their goals in their speech session, we can still celebrate them with a birthday themed session. I have some birthday activities that you can do with your kids during speech therapy down below along with ways to incorporate them into your sessions. Enjoy!

What birthday activities can you do in your speech sessions?

Some birthday activities you can do include:

  • Birthday Videos
  • Birthday Books
  • Birthday Coloring Pictures
  • Birthday Language Scene

You can use videos (and songs) that are geared towards birthdays! These can be used as motivators for breaks or even used for the actual therapy session. You can use them to work on inferencing, WH- questions, story retelling, and more! One video that is fun to watch is Happy Birthday, Finny.

Books are always fun to incorporate into therapy and are great to use in mixed groups. You can work on different language concepts and also articulation. When reading a book, you can have your kids listen for words that have their sound in them to practice once you are finished reading the book. Then you can also work on any other language goals needed, like sequencing or WH- questions.

Coloring pages are one of the easiest to complete during the sessions. It’s easy to just go online and find a coloring picture that you can print and provide to each of your kids. Coloring is great to work on in mixed groups as well by having your kids earn the crayon they want by hitting the target on whatever goal they are working on.

Language scenes are always a hit in my sessions. I can use these with my language kids to target following directions and WH- questions. I can even use them to target negation, inferencing, and many other goals.
